Florencia Gechter

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1972.

After graduating as a graphic designer from the University of Buenos Aires, Florencia began her training in the workshop of María Luisa Manassero and took a variety of courses that contributed to her training at the Parsons School of Design in New York. She also dabbled in photogravure in Lucrecia Urbano’s Zona Imaginaria workshop, joined the Project School directed by Laura Messing and attended Proyecto 8 led by Francisca Kweitel. During the recent years she has participated in Sergio Bazán’s workshop.

“In contact with the paper that I choose as a subject and the graphic work, I feel comfortable. It is with the burden and drive of found paper, gifted paper, that the work is put together: each piece has a connotation, each form a past. The full-color silk-screened papers, so powerful in their texture, refer to my times of manual graphic design work, papers that are no longer found or manufactured.”

She currently lives and works in Buenos Aires.
