The experiences leave us traces that are hidden in the time of memory to give shape to new images.
Many years ago I discovered Matisse’s Dance at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. Upon my return, a series of collages made with old woodcuts emerged, evoking the emotion that the encounter produced in me.
These images re-emerged when I met collages again, thus the need to be captured on canvas was born, giving rise to this series as a tribute to Matisse and dance.
