In Pablo Stein’s painting, a certain state of conflict seems to be manifested or produced, of conflagration between elements that strive to prevail over one another, without any ultimately appearing as dominant.
Unmistakable invariably feminine figures and almost always with their backs, or sideways showing a smooth semi-profile, elaborated halfway between reference and geometric synthesis, sometimes metamorphose into shapeless silhouettes, strangely voluptuous lumps, and forcefully survive the onslaught. of a convulsed exudation of dripping, blown paint in a disruptive fight of thick scratches, splatters and brush strokes.

Stein nurtures his painting in terms of a polarity where the dilemma, or the dialectic, between action and reflection is once again the protagonist. Textures and pigments, fluid and dense, corporeal and atmospheric, contrast and mixture, visible and occluded, come together and separate, coagulate and dilute, like the humors and substances of a Secular alchemy that disputes the thematic and semantic physiognomy of each piece, making it idle, or impossible, to detect which is their ultimate affiliation.
